Paul Davis

Paul Davis

I'd only heard and seen Paul Davis' work mentioned in presentations given by Matt during briefings and wrote down the name a couple times as it kind of remixed me of Raymond Pettibon's 'illustrations' - but never really delved into his works. But Matt one day said I should really read an interview with him as I'd find it interesting.

Yeah, I do love that whole outsider illustrator scene and sometimes feel like I fit into that kind of unemployable, weird, emotional, angsty field - the things Paul Davis has to say about things like advertising and TV and just the world in general I feel I totally resonate with.

I bought this book off the internet which is just full of his drawings of people in Britain and America, giving their opinions on each other. Its perfectly shit. like the drawings are so throw away, due to the aesthetic, the medium used, likes its the only thing he had on him to draw with at the time.

I think with them being in this way, Davis captures the character - and not just individual but society and humanity as a whole.

I don't want to rip off Davis as a practitioner but I definitely feel influenced by his way of working - this book also has inspired me to use my person sketchbook a lot more and investigate into people especially.
